Making Decisions

In Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and the UK and England as a whole, the Country Director makes recommendations to the appropriate country committee based on the assessment of the application.

In each England region, the Regional Manager submits recommended applications to the regional advisory committee (RAC). The members of the RAC are volunteers and use their knowledge of local needs to advise the Director for England about the type of grants which will benefit their area. The Director then puts the final recommendations to the England committee.

Decisions about grants made under the International grants programme are made following recommendations by an advisory panel. Grants made by the UK committee to medical and social research projects are advised on by special research advisory panels.

The country committees make the final decisions about which grants are awarded.
