Housing associations and managers of temporary accommodation for young people are
increasingly aware of the need to involve their clients in the re-housing process. Part of the
Charities Board's support for the Chapeltown-based Leeds Action to Create Homes (LATCH)
is for a project based on the national self-build movement model which provides young people with the design skills and construction training necessary to build their own homes. The LATCH self-build team is undertaking the refurbishment of a large disused Edwardian property in Chapeltown. Another grant to LATCH of 373,136 over three years is for SOLO (Sorting Out Life Options). A new headquarters will provide a base for an advice worker to provide support on independent living skills for tenants of the housing units managed by LATCH.
