On the Broxtowe, Apsley and Bilborough estates of Nottingham, a third of all households are lone
parents receiving benefit. On the streets and in the schools, Zone Youth Project targets those at risk of offending. Fore-Front! promotes educational work in association with local schools, colleges and the Greater Nottingham TEC. An associated arts project has led to enrolments for drama studies at the local college. The aim is to broaden horizons and help people to break out from the negative stereotyping of the area not least by funding agencies. Young people are encouraged to become peer educators and volunteers through the establishment of youth committees. From Zone's base at Corban House, a semi-detached
property in the heart of Broxtowe, a health drop-in service operates which has been recognised by
the local NHS Health Trust as an effective way of reaching those who are put off by conventional
clinics.
