Welcome to the National Lottery Charities Board London Office
London is one of the largest cities in the western world area and the most populous city in the European Unit. Its a city of great contrast, where wealth and tourism are countered by social exclusion, disadvantage and poverty.
Administratively, London is made up of 32 boroughs, plus the city of London.
From the western tip of Hillingdon to the east of Havering London measures approximately 35 miles. From Enfield in the north to Croydon in the south, it is about 28 miles. This makes an area of approximately 1000 square miles.
Londons population is seven million and growing, almost the same as New York. London is ethnically very diverse. 22 per cent of the resident population were born outside of the UK. There are 37 communities of over 10,000 people who were born outside England and who now live in London.
Guided by the strategic plan for London, we aim to make grants that meet regional needs and make a difference.
We will particularly encourage applications from projects focusing on:
- young people who are alienated from formal education and/or work
- isolated older people
- greater community cohesion
- children and families
- refugee communities and asylum seekers
- people with disabilities
- capacity building within small groups
- infrastructure development within the black and minority ethnic voluntary sector.

The London regional office now hold monthly How to Apply seminars. This is aimed at groups who are not aware of their local development agency or council for voluntary service (CVS), but are aware of funds available from the Charities Board.
These sessions are held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. These are morning sessions starting at 10am sharp until 12.30. If you are interested in attending one of these sessions then contact the Enquiries Officer in the London region on: 0207 587 6600.
Targeted Development Work In London Boroughs
At the present time, we are concentrating developments on certain London boroughs. This is because we want to see more - and better - applications from those areas. Currently, we are working closely with the CVS and the Local Authority in both Barking and Dagenham and Greenwich.
However, this does not mean we are excluding other areas - over the next few months, we will also be speaking at funding seminars in many London Boroughs.
Anyone interested should get in touch with their local CVS or equivalent development agency, where there is always plenty of advice about fundraising/training/organisational development issues.
If you are not sure who your local support agency is, then call us and we can help point you in the right direction, or book you in for one of our sessions in our office.
