North East Regional Awards Committee
The Charities Board established Regional Committees in 1995 when we first began to make grants. At first they were called Regional Advisory Panels, which made recommendations to the England Committee, the decision making body, to ensure that grants given meet the policies and priorities laid down by the Board and in doing so, reflected the most urgent needs within the region.
New legislation allows the Board to delegate decision making from the England Committee to the Regional Committee, which are now called Regional Awards Committees
The Regional Awards Committee has 12 members and a Chair. Two members are recruited through a new random selection process using the electoral roll, and the rest through advertisement. Committee members act in a personal capacity and on a voluntary basis, though expenses are met. Anyone who is interested in membership should contact: National Lottery Charities Board, at 6th Floor, Baron House, 4 Neville Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 5NL, Tel: 0191 255-1100.
