The principles behind our grant making...

In Scotland we have adopted some principles to guide us in developing policies and distributing funds.

These are:

• recognising that needs are different in different places and need a range of approaches
• supporting people and communities to define their own solutions - we set broad aims for our programmes, but encourage local organisations and communities to take their own approach to tackling local needs
• prioritising community based and community led work, especially projects developed by those who will benefit from the work
• providing added value and additional funds - voluntary sector resources are scarce and there is great demand. We want to make sure that our grants help develop new work and extend existing work
