The Charities Board's Priority for Wales

The Wales Committee, whose members make the final decision on which applications to fund, has decided to give priority to applications that help meet the needs of those with poor access to transport. It has earmarked up to 3million a year for the funding of Community Transport Schemes. There are no separate application forms and projects will be assessed in the same way as all other applications. However, when such a project is recommended for funding, an additional 3 points will be added to its assessment score, which will increase the chances of being awarded a grant.

Being able to get around and about is important to all of us. The weekly shopping trip, the appointment at the doctors, visits to the cinema or the seaside are all being taken for granted by many of us. But all over Wales there are people who face daily problems in getting from their homes to places where they need or want to be.

So what can be done to help? One option is to provide Community Transport. Ideas, advice and support for people who want to set up a scheme or for those already involved is available from the Community Transport Association on 01286 755555.

One example is West Glamorgan Community Transport. It runs a successful community led scheme that helps thousands of people every year to get around, making a real difference to their daily lives.

And the good news is that there is money available for Community Transport groups. The Charities Board agrees that access to services and facilities are important. So they've announced that they want to spend up to 3 million a year on Community Transport. Grants start at 500 and can cover costs from 6 months to 3 years.
