Charities Board funding tops �80 million in Northern Ireland

The National Lottery Charities Board has announced another �2.9 million of funding to charitable groups across Northern Ireland. Since the establishment of the Charities Board in Northern Ireland in 1995 just over �80 million has been allocated to local groups.

26 groups will benefit from the awards which will support a wide range of causes including deaf groups, youth groups, groups for older people, groups of carers, community groups and homeless people.




New board member appointed to the national lottery charities board office for Northern Ireland

Culture Secretary Chris Smith has announced that Sheila Jane Malley is to join the Board of the National Lottery Charities Board and serve on its Northern Ireland Committee.

Her appointment will take effect from January 2001 and the term of appointment will be for three years.

Sheila Jane Malley is the National Co-ordinator for BBC Children in Need in Northern Ireland. Prior to being appointed as a full Board member for Northern Ireland she was a member of the National Lottery Charities Board's Northern Ireland Committee.

Sheila Jane is a Board member of Charity Evaluation Northern Ireland (CENI), a member of the Core Funding Advisory Group for the Northern Ireland Voluntary Trust (NIVT) and a member of the Northern Ireland working party on the Active Communities Initiative. She was a member of the Youth Council for Northern Ireland from 1996 - 2000 and a member of Comic Relief UK Grants Committee from 1994 - 1999.

Small grants to be replaced by Awards for All

The National Lottery Charities Board is pleased to announce an improved scheme for small groups to be launched on 2 April 2001. The new scheme is supported by all the lottery distributors in Northern Ireland and will mean improved access for a wider range of groups.

More details about the Awards for All scheme will follow in the new year. However, in the interim, groups should be aware that the current Small grants scheme will close at the end of February to make way for the new programme.
