Brian Tanner CBE (Chair) (appointed Sept �97)
Chief Executive of Somerset County Council from 1990 to 1997. County Treasurer of Somerset County Council from 1975 to 1990. Current appointments/non-executive directorships include Avon and Somerset Police Community Trust, Jupiter International Green Investment Trust, Chair Taunton and Somerset NHS Trust, Somerset Relate Appeal. Chair of Taunton Town Centre Partnership. Former directorships include Somerset Training and Enterprise Council 1990-1997, Avon Enterprise Ltd 1988-1997, Further Education Funding Council 1996 - 1999.
Caitriona Tobin (Vice-Chair) (appointed July �95)Management Consultant; Avon Health Authority Board member on West Bristol Primary Care Group, Vice Chair of Bristol Cyrenians. Formerly Community General Manager in Frenchay NHS Trust. Particular interest and experience in partnership working between health and social care with the voluntary sector.
Ian K D Andrews (appointed Sept �97)Former Town Clerk and Chief Executive of Poole Borough Council. Runs his own consultancy, including international election observation and writes on local history. President, Age Concern Poole. Board member Raglan Housing Association. Chairman, Dorset Valuation Tribunal. Adviser, Prince�s Youth Business Trust. Founder of Poole Association of Voluntary Welfare Organisations. Secretary of Poole Sports Council to 1993.

Landlady of public houses from 1978 - 1989. Currently working as a Stewardess of a social club. Housewife and mother.
Jenny Craig (appointed Sept �97)
Director of Avon Parents Network. Member of Single Regeneration Budget/URBAN European Funding Initiative since 1995, and OSCA, The West of England TEC�s Out of School Child-care Initiative advisory panel. Among numerous paid and honorary appointments in Bristol, she has been Job Training Scheme Officer, Project Fullemploy Bristol, Chair of Bristol Black Voluntary Sector Development Unit, ChairpersonBristol Racial Equality Council, Executive member of Bristol Common Purpose, Board memberSIA - National Development Agency for Black Vol Organisations. Author of Widening Access to Higher and Further Education for African/Caribbean People in Bath.
Jan Crawley (appointed Sept �97)
Project Director for Wiltshire Community Foundation; Trustee of Dorothy Hopkins Trust in Bath and member of Wiltshire Rural Initiatives panel. Postgraduate Diploma in Social Administration and Postgraduate Certificate in Social Work at University of Bristol. Currently studying for MA on Working in the Community. Employment: Pyschiatric Unit of Glenside Hospital, Bristol and Weston Health Authority; Avon Social Services Dept, managing residential unit for people with mental health problems in Bath Community Mental Health Team. Manager of an advice agency in Bath and NE Somerset incorporating a housing advice project, a deposit bond scheme, a disability information service and a specialist project for people with mental health problems. Formerly on the management committee of North East Somerset CVS, Peasedown Open House and Radstock Open House.
Teresa Kippax (appointed Sept 98)
District Officer (Dorset) for the Royal Society of Mencap, advising and supporting local groups, along with people with learning disabilities and their parents/carers. Previous employment includes working for Dorset Social Services as Joint Planning Liaison Officer, a role which encouraged and supported service user, carer and voluntary sector involvement in policy and service development. Has established effective working links with a wide cross section of the voluntary sector in Dorset.
Steve Paget (appointed Aug �96)
Royal Navy - 1981-1986 - Served on several ships and shore bases, before being invalided out on medical grounds due to severe trauma to the neck resulting in Tetraplegia (C5/6 incomplete). Since then I have been a full time wheelchair user. Trustee of the Cornwall Friends� Mobility Trust - I have the pleasure and honour of being a co-opted member of the Trustees of this organisation. I am also a voluntary worker one day per week at the Cornwall Friends Mobility Centre in Truro. A former Voluntary Director and Trustee of �All Disabilities� (ALLDIS Cornwall Ltd) - February 1996 - July 1998 - a small group of disabled people, dedicated to improving opportunities and services to disabled people in Cornwall. In the organisation�s first three years ALLDIS, also a registered charity, has created the Cornish Disability Forum and Discover magazine. It has also set up the Disability Information and Advice network in the county and is involved in assisting other groups, both voluntary and statutory, in advising on disability service provision. ALLDIS has played a major role in helping to set up a Direct Payments Scheme for the Social Services in Cornwall. During May 1999, I accepted the position of Co-ordinator for ALLDIS in a voluntary capacity until funding is secured to employ another person in this role. Former Vice Chair and Trustee of the Cornish Disability Forum (CDF) - February 1996 - October 1998 - a separate entity developed from ALLDIS, and now a charity in its own right. The remit of the forum being to bring together all the separate bodies, working in Cornwall, on disabled people in collaboration and co-operation bringing their needs to the attention of the statutory bodies and other agencies. I sit in an advisory capacity on the following: Mobility Services Committee (County), Access Forum (County), Marie Therese House Users Group (St Michael�s Hospital, Hayle, Cornwall), Guide Project Steering Group, Self Direction - Disability Awareness Trainer (participant).
Mahmood Patel (appointed Sept 99)
Qualified social worker, employee of Gloucester County Council based in Gloucester city. Barbados born of Indian parents lived most of my life in England. Worked in the voluntary sector as a volunteer with Samaritans and CAB in the 80s and was active on race equality bodies in Gloucester. Also sat on steering committee of Gloucester Law Centre, severed as magistrate for adult bench in Gloucestershire. Worked for Committee for Race Equality (CRE), chaired many fledgling groups and helped establish Asian Elders Group and Gymasian. I have extensive experience of working in statutory and voluntary organisations.
Amanda Ratsey (appointed Sept �97)
Project Manager for an agricultural and rural development project for Devon and Cornwall. Previously worked on the SRB programmes in Cornwall and as a Funding Manager for PROSPER.Volunteer for the Mother Theresa Foundation in India and for a soup kitchen in Manchester.
Ann Robinson (appointed Sept 99)
A graduate of Bath Academy of Art and a trained teacher. Has lived and worked in Cyprus, Germany, Canada, Belgium and Russia. Established pottery programmes for ethnic minorities in seven Toronto schools in the mid seventies.Has spent many years in welfare and voluntary work including six years with the CAB in Devon.
Henrietta Rose (appointed Sept 98)
Currently working as a social worker in Gloucestershire, previously worked as a Probation Officer in Gloucestershire and London. Ran a mail order bookshop with her husband and cared for her son with mental disabilities and her elderly mother. Her book �Tom, A Gift in Disguise� outlines the family�s experience of living with a child with disabilities. She is involved with a number of local and national carers groups and is treasurer of a group helping AIDS orphans in Kenya. She was previously a governor of a Cheltenham special school.
Jay Talbot (appointed Sept 1998)
Chief Executive of the Community Council of Devon. Board member of CRISP (Community Regeneration in the South West Partnership). Secretary of DeLDAF (Devon Location Development Agencies Forum). Member of the Business Management Group of the South West Forum, and voluntary sector representative on the South West Regional Chamber. Previous work experience as fieldworker with the Devon Rural Development Programme, Secretary of DPFA (Devon Playing Fields Association), and in community development and community arts in London and the South West. Voluntary management experience includes currently DEREC (Devon and Exeter Racial Equality Council), and formerly a Council of Voluntary Service, a Youth Association, a Housing Co-operative, a Community Park and an Arts Centre.
John de la Cour - Joint Regional Manager
Appointed to the permanent position from January 1st, 1996. Formerly on secondment from Exeter Council for Voluntary Service where he was joint General Manager with Pippa Warin for six years.He specialises in advising voluntary organisations on technical assistance and organisational development. He has chaired Exeter Samaritans for six years and Exeter CAB. He comes from an arts background, having been Assistant Director (Arts) and Music Officer of South West Arts, the Regional Arts Association for the South West counties, Concerts Manager for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Bournemouth Sinfonietta, and Music and Combined Arts Officer with West Midlands Arts. Other work includes development schemes for a very poor community of south-western Uganda, and he is Executive Director of an arts and heritage grant-making Foundation in the Midlands.
Pippa Warin - Joint Regional Manager
Appointed to the permanent position from January 1st, 1996. Formerly on secondment from Exeter Council for Voluntary Service where she was joint General Manager with John de la Cour for six years.A trained teacher she has a total of 20 years experience in the Voluntary and Community Sectors and Community Education. Previous employment has included Westminster Women�s Aid, South West Arts and Exeter Council for Voluntary Service. She has a track record in the setting up of and management of new projects: Community Arts in the inner city of Birmingham, Artshare South West - the South West Regional disability organisation, community education for women and children in refuges, and Devon Arts in Schools initiative. An active volunteer (governor and committee member), she has chaired several committees including Exeter and Devon Arts Centre and undertaken freelance and consultancy work including Charity Projects/Comic Relief. The management of voluntary organisations and establishment of partnerships with statutory bodies has been a feature of all her work.
