Nottinghamshire group's windfall

The Community Fund has awarded six groups a total of £806,844 in Nottinghamshire in the second round of grants in 2004.

The Nottinghamshire groups that will share in the latest lottery windfall are:
 · Kirkby Youth Housing Trust £188,509
· Bassetlaw Association for Mental Health Ltd £92,372
· Stapleford Volunteer Bureau £160,152
· Nottingham Hostels Liaison Group, based in Nottingham £120,724
· Crabtree Play Project, based in Bulwell £42,370
· FOCUS (CLS) Limited, based in Bassetlaw £202,717 D

Delighted to receive the award for the Kirkby Youth Housing Trust Cllr Richard Needham, Chair of Trustees for the registered charity said: “We are absolutely thrilled. The Lottery grant will help enormously.”

Kirkby Youth Housing Trust is based in Kirkby-in-Ashfield. It provides a range of services to homeless 16-25 year olds, including a seven bed and a young people’s support service. It also runs a community centre in which it operates a carer toddler groups, an after school play project for 8-12 year olds and a youth group for 13-18 year olds.

The £188,509 Community Fund grant will now enable the charity to pay the salary of a full-time Youth and Community Development Worker, the salaries of eight part-time members of staff running the after school play project and youth group and the running and operational costs of the charity for the next three years.

Cllr Needham added: “Without the money we would have had to consider closing the play and youth projects. The money will allow the Trust to continue delivering a much needed service and develop new ones within the local community, which we hope will make a positive difference.”

The money has been awarded under the Community Fund’s fair share initiative, which ensures that disadvantaged areas, like the District of Ashfield, get their ‘fair share’ of lottery funding.

The Community Fund money given to Nottinghamshire is from a total of £1,872,689 distributed amongst 19 groups, across six counties, in the East Midlands. The grants were awarded in March, making them the second round of grants the Community Fund has given to the East Midlands in 2004.
