Christian Action (Enfield) Housing Association, based in the fair share area of Enfield, is one of 34 groups in the London region to be awarded a grant by Community Fund in November.
Debbie Pippard, London Regional Manager for Community Fund said, “We are delighted to award Christian Action (Enfield) Housing Association this grant. It will enable them to support pre-school children whose families are currently in temporary housing by providing space where they can play and meet other children. It is very important that children are able to develop the life skills, such as communication and social interaction, that this project will teach them It will also help them integrate into society and the education system.”
Mark Hayes, Chief Executive, Christian Action (Enfield) Housing Association said, "It is fantastic that this very valuable work will continue to be funded, and that we are therefore able to bring huge benefits to the parents and children who are supported by the project" Christian Action (Enfield) provides affordable homes and services for those at greatest disadvantage including single people, families, the elderly and people with special needs. The need for this project was identified by community nurses who noticed that many of the children living in temporary accommodation were experiencing a delay in their development and had behavioural difficulties. The project aims to alleviate isolation and improve the health and well-being of users, with the social interaction and space to play helping to prevent developmental delay. Many of their parents are refugees and asylum seekers and have immediate issues, such as language barriers and trauma, that need to be resolved. Families will be able to access information on health, education and ESOL classes that will help them to integrate into the local community more easily. Enfield is a fair share area. Under the fair share scheme, the Community Fund and New Opportunities Fund will provide guaranteed funding of £175 million to 77 disadvantaged areas throughout the UK who have not had a fair share of lottery funds, ensuring that funding goes to the communities who need it most. There are no deadlines for submitting an application to Community Fund and voluntary and community groups are encouraged to apply for funding.
