Joint statement from the New Opportunities Fund and Community Fund regarding the creation of a new distributor.

It has recently been announced that the Community Fund and the New Opportunities Fund will be coming together to create an exciting new lottery distributor, which will build on the strengths of both organisations. This new body will provide a more streamlined and accessible service to an even wider range of customers and stakeholders.
Both organisations view the potential new distributor as a stimulating challenge and believe that partnership, tackling disadvantage, improving community services and local priority setting, will be key themes for the new body. The Boards of the two bodies welcome the opportunity for the new organisation to work with the sector to explore new and more effective ways of funding projects, building capacity and developing partnerships across sectors.
We are currently in the very early stages of the merger process and a number of key decisions are still to be made. At this point it is therefore not possible to identify what the impact of the new distributor may have on staffing levels in the longer term. In the meantime, it is essential that we continue to provide grants for the disadvantaged of our society, while providing an excellent service to both our internal and external customers. We will therefore continue to recruit where possible on a permanent basis. If at some future point the new distributor does have impact on staffing requirements, we anticipate this would be addressed via natural wastage and voluntary redundancies in the first instance.
