Dame Valerie Strachan was Chairman, HM Customs and Excise from 1993-2000. She previously served in the Cabinet Office, HM Treasury, the Home Office and the Department of Economic Affairs.
Chairman of the Communications and Public Service Lifeboat Fund; member of the Council of the RNLI; member of the Court of Manchester University; member of the Board of Management of the Heritage of London; member of the Institute of Fiscal Studies; President of the British International Freight Association; external member of the House of Lords Audit Committee.
