When I open a PDF document, it is completely illegible, produces an error message or won't open

Please check that you have the most up-to-date version of Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. You can download this from the Adobe website. Also check that you are not trying to open a PDF file from another program, such as Microsoft Word.
