Using the Electronic Application Form (EAF)
| ||||
We offer application forms in a format known as EAF - Electronic Application Form.
The EAF system consists of the following main parts:
A Form file (.elf) containing a coded description of the application form. A Help file (.elh) containing guidance and help notes for using the system and filling in the form and which can be accessed from the Help menu; The EAF Reader software, which interprets the Form and Help files and displays the application form on your PC monitor; An Answer file (.elz) which stores the answers that you give to the questions in the form. Note: The EAF Reader software must be installed before the other files can be used. The default location for the EAF software is C:\Program Files\EAF. The Form and Help files are stored in a Forms folder in the same location. Answer files can be stored anywhere on your PC but the default location is also in the Forms folder. Form files There are separate Form and Help files for each application form. If you have more than one application form installed on your PC you can select the one you require either when you start the program from your Start>Programs>EAF menu or from within the program by using 'Open Form' from the File menu (See 'Opening the application form' above). Answer files It is recommended that you save your answers regularly using 'Save as' from the File menu (or 'Save' if the file has already been created). This will create an answer file (.elz). If you are working on more than one application you may have several answer files. Answer files can be stored anywhere on your PC or removable media. The default location is in the Forms folder (C:\Program Files\EAF\Forms). You can open an Answer file from within the EAF program using 'Open Answer File' from the File menu. Alternatively, you can locate the answer file using Windows Explorer and double click on it. In either case the EAF program will open the Form file that was used to create the answer file. When you have completed the form your answer file must be saved onto a floppy disk for submission to the appropriate Community Fund or Awards for All office together with the necessary supporting documentation. Make sure you clearly state on the floppy disk label your name, organisation name, telephone contact number and the type of application contained on the disk. System malfunctions In the event of a system malfunction, either to your PC or in the EAF software, the EAF program attempts to create a recovery copy of your answers (file extension .bak). The success of this depends on the type of malfunction. If the recovery file is saved successfully you will be asked, when you re-load the form, whether you wish to restore the automatically saved answer file. You should answer 'yes', especially if you had not recently saved your own answer file. You can always restore your own answer file if it is more up to date. Sharing files If you send your Answer File to somebody else to work on they'll also need the EAF software installed and the correct Form File. If they have these installed they'll be able to open your Answer File without a problem. Otherwise, you'll need to send the relevant Form File (.elf) and Help File (.elh) as well. All of these should be small enough to be emailed without a problem or can be saved to a floppy disk. |
