20/02/04 Massive boost for new Centre in Barry
The aim to build a brand new Community Multipurpose Centre in Barry received a huge boost today with the news that it had secured £300,000 from the Community Fund, one of the lottery distributors operating in Wales. The Centre itself, which has a total price tag of over 2 million pounds, will provide a range of facilities and activities available for people of all ages.

Bargoed YMCA has received a birthday present of over £165,000 to renovate the popular centre following their 65th Anniversary. The Community Fund lottery award will provide a full time manager and help with renovations of the building so that activities to include more disability groups and older people with mobility problems can be developed.

25/02/04 Enterprising Elderly get their own Centre

Establishing a centre for older residents in Wrexham came one step closer this week when Caia Park Partnership Ltd heard the news that they will receive £108,223 from the Community Fund, one of the lottery distributors operating in Wales. Two years of planning will come to fruition when the Older People Forum on the estate take over the unused Deva Centre which was formerly a community centre. The centre will be refurbished to create an accessible venue providing lunches, bathing facilities and other services as required.

The award will enable the group, Access for Black and Minority Ethnic Children and Young People with Disabilities (ABCD), to employ a development worker who will work specifically with 16-25 year olds.
