In the 2002-2003 financial year, we awarded £285 million.
This included:
£63 million on projects for disabled people (such as improving access to buildings). £32 million on projects for older people (such as home care, day centres and the provision of meals). £55 million on projects for children and young people (including play groups, after-school care, helplines and victim support). £5.6 million for health, medical and social research projects. £14 million on building, extending and improving village halls. £4 million on projects helping to build the capacity of the black and minority ethnic voluntary sector. £7 million on advice, information and counselling for asylum seekers. £59 million for projects supporting people in financial hardship (such as unemployed people and those in debt), including training, welfare and employment advice, community facilities. £11 million for projects helping homeless people get their lives back on track (including advice, hostels, support services such as resettlement programmes, rent guarantee schemes, basic skills training and furniture recycling). £10 million for projects benefiting victims of crime and abuse. |
